LUMINEU: a pilot experiment for rare-event searches
The main purpose of LUMINEU is to prepare the construction of a next-generation Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay experiment, capable exploring the inverted hierarchy region of neutrino mass. This goal will be achieved through the development of sophisticated low-temperature detectors, which may lead to important advancements in the field of dark matter detection as well. LUMINEU will start a pilot experiment based on scintillating bolometers of ZnMoO4 that will investigate the isotope 100Mo.
The LUMINEU activity is part of the CUPID project, a proposed bolometric tonne-scale experiment to be built as a follow-up to CUORE and exploiting as much as possible the CUORE infrastructures.
